New Beginnings, Ancient History

Over the past few years I have been delving into my family’s stories. Some things I have learned: my second great-grandmother Catherine Narcisse was a government schoolteacher, and also conducted the choir at St Mary’s Catholic Church in Above Rocks, Jamaica. (To quote George I. Lescene, a historian from Above Rocks, “she WAS the choir!”) My mother was part of the third generation of Narcisse girls to attend Immaculate Conception High School in Kingston, Jamaica; her grandmother Constantia Narcisse was the first. These ladies form a continuous line of musicians in my family - Lisa Narcisse, my great-aunt, and Denise Narcisse-Mair, my mother’s first cousin, being the most eminent. I am proud to be documenting and celebrating this history, alongside my own teaching and Suzuki teacher training activities. More to come…
